‘Bouncing Cats’ This lively documentary, which was featured in the second season of the LA New Wave International Film Festival, tells the inspiring story of one man’s attempt to create a better life for the children of Uganda using the unlikely tool of hip-hop with a focus on b-boy culture and break dancing. Dalai Lama UCLA, home to the largest Buddhist studies program in the Western world, welcomes Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, to campus, where the Tibetan spiritual leader will deliver a talk and participate in a public symposium on Buddhism and neuroscience. Battles This uncategorizable band may have lost the services of frontman Tyondai Braxton, but that blow should mean less to Battles than most bands. Battles’ sound is built on strafing runs of lead guitars, groaning industrial noise and samurai drumming that add up to a strangely anthemic kind of deconstructed rock-band ethic. White Arrows The local indie-rock sextet will kick off its Monday night residency at the Bootleg Theater, promising a month of synth-laced, lo-fi psychedelia.
