DIY: Celebrity Halloween Costumes

Share

We here understand the pain of the procrastinating Halloween party-goer, who wants something instantly recognizable but unique, cheap but peppy — and, most important, utterly attention-grabbing. We turned to celebrity stylist team Mariel Haenn and Rob Zangardi, who work on icons such as Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna, for some surefire DIY tips on creating looks by your favorite celebrities.

Edward Cullen: Robert Pattinson’s vampire, a brooding undead heartthrob, is a fantastic option for guys looking to pull looks from their own closet with some low-maintenance tweaks. “Any guy can pull this off,” Zangardi said, “it’s jeans, a white T-shirt and then a letterman jacket or a wool peacoat. Mariel and I also suggest a white facepaint with some glitter to get the ‘Twilight’ diamond effect when those vamps hit sunlight.”

J.Lo: “American Idol’s” resident diva judge has a tres distinctive style: glam to death. “Jennifer always wears sparkles,” the team advises. “Load up on the jewelry, whether it’s metallic, golds, diamonds, mixing metals. And we’ve been suggesting some rear padding. Jennifer is literally known for her assets.”

Justin Bieber: Another surefire and inexpensive costume for dudes (or ladies for that matter). “Justin is very simple: colored hoodie, skinny jeans, high-tops and a really great wig with a side comb-over. Jeans should sag below the hip.”

Rihanna: For the avant-garde Barbadian pop goddess, the team acknowledges her ever-evolving style. “For someone like Rihanna, it’s best to pick one of her iconic moments to re-create. For Halloween, we’re recommending something like the AMAs, where she debuted her red hair performing with Eminen.” To capture a more cinematic Riri, the pair recommends a red wig and cream-colored bustier with a major tutu and combat boots.
