A fiercely creative composer and improviser, Chicago-born saxophonist Matana Roberts took her artistry to new heights with “Coin Coin Chapter One: Gens de Couleur Libres,” an intense and ambitious work that explores her family history with a mix of intense musical expression and spoken word. Recently chosen to perform at England’s boundary-pushing All Tomorrow’s Parties festival, Roberts will be joined for this performance by Tortoise’s Jeff Parker and percussionist Alex Cline.
