David Arquette files for divorce from Courteney Cox

On Monday, David Arquette’s bar mitzvah made him a man. And soon enough, the divorce papers he filed last week will make him a single man as well.

The actor, who has been separated from wife Courteney Cox since 2010, finally filed for divorce Friday, according to court documents posted Tuesday by TMZ. The two met on the set of “Scream” in 1996 and were married in 1999.

When their living situation went public after several months in October 2010, the couple issued a statement explaining they’d separated to “better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage.”

In the months that followed, Arquette indulged in a wild lifestyle, finally entering rehab voluntarily just after New Year’s Day in 2011.

Arquette is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their child, daughter Coco, who turns 8 on Wednesday. Coco was an enthusiastic fan of her dad’s “Dancing With the Stars” stint, appearing in the audience with her mom and aunts to cheer for him during his seven-week run on the show.

“When I came home [after being eliminated], she was like, ‘It’s just not fair. It’s not fair that you’re gone,’” Arquette told “Good Morning America” last November, the day after he was cut. “It was an interesting parenting moment. I just said, ‘Listen, sometimes in life things aren’t fair, but you have to go through it with dignity.’”
