On the same day that her husband, Jay-Z, performed at a rally for President Obama in Ohio, Beyonce posted a brief handwritten note to the president on her website Monday, calling him “the leader to take us from where we are to where we need to be.”

“Everyday we see your heart and character, inspiring all of us to give more of ourselves,” wrote the pop star, who went on to describe Obama as “the reason my daughter and nephew will grow up knowing that they can truly be anything they want to be.” She signed off with “all my respect and admiration.”

Beyonce has been a vocal supporter of the president and Michelle Obama for years. In 2009, she famously serenaded the couple at an inaugural ball and later lent her vocal talent (and legwarmer collection) to the first lady’s “Let’s Move” campaign. In September, the singer and her husband hosted an Obama fundraiser at Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club in New York.
