Beyonce’s Vogue interview: 10 things about Blue Ivy and more

Beyoncé is stripping down and baring it all in a refreshing way in her March interview with Vogue, in which she gushes about her baby girl Blue Ivy, childbirth, work and being Mrs. Jay-Z.

Though the interview for the mag’s March issue happened before the flurry of lip-synch-gate and her eye-popping Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, the 31-year-old gave candid responses to interviewer Jason Gay, who was taken by the show that has become her life and the woman in that starring role.

Here are a few things we gleaned:

Blue Ivy has forever changed Beyoncé’s life: “She’s my road dog,” Beyoncé said. “She’s my homey, my best friend.”

Mother and daughter forged this connection during childbirth, which should put those surrogacy rumors to bed: “I felt very maternal around eight months.... And I thought I couldn’t become any more until I saw the baby.... But it happened during my labor because I had a very strong connection with my child. I felt like when I was having contractions, I envisioned my child pushing through a very heavy door. And I imagined this tiny infant doing all the work, so I couldn’t think about my own pain.... We were talking. I know it sounds crazy, but I felt a communication.” She added: “Everything that scared me just was not present in that room. So for me to really let go and really appreciate every contraction ... it was the best day of my life.”

Queen B grew up in a hair salon and perhaps that’s the reason she’s never downward spiraled: “She’s wise beyond her years sometimes,” friend and Destiny’s Child alum Kelly Rowland said. “I think that comes with her growing up in [her mother’s] hair salon. I also grew up in the salon.... We’d listen to other people’s conversations and learn a lot.”

Beyoncé and Gwyneth Paltrow are homies too: And Gwynnie sees the effect that Blue Ivy has had on her mama. “Blue was sleeping in her arms, across her body and B was listening back to what she had been working on,” Paltrow said. “I thought, ‘This is how you do it. You do what you love with who you love included.’ ” Paltrow later added: “When she is working onstage, she has more power than any woman I’ve ever seen. She would never say it and has never said it, but I feel she knows with every fiber of her being that she is the best in the world at her job.”

Her HBO documentary will tell her real story: “Life Is But a Dream” should change all that. “My story has never been told -- no one really knows who I am,” Beyoncé said. The film apparently plays out like a home movie rather than a traditional documentary. In it, she hashes out her 2011 decision to split with her father Mathew Knowles as her business manager. “This movie has healed me in so many ways,” she says. “It makes me want to cry.”

More on surrogacy rumors that she plans to debunk: “That was very odd,” Beyoncé says now. “Who even thinks that? Like, who would make that up.... You can’t take it too seriously.” Her mother, Tina Knowles, thinks the rumors are “the most ridiculous thing in the world.... It’s tough as a mother because people say all this crazy stuff and I want to say, ‘You should tell them,’ sometimes. She’ll say, ‘Mom, I don’t owe them that. Let them say what they want to say.’ ” Apparently the doc also includes intimate access to major life moments, including a glimpse of Blue Ivy’s sonogram.

She reads stories about herself online but she won’t read the comments: “Don’t scroll down!” she advised. “You’re definitely going to get your feelings hurt.”

Her upcoming album has several big-name collaborators: Some of those big names include Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and The-Dream. And the album “is a lot more sensual ... empowering,” she said. And it’s meant to celebrate being a wife and mother. Her upcoming tour is named the Mrs. Carter Show, after all. “Right now, after giving birth, I really understand the power of my body,” she said. “I just feel my body means something completely different. I feel a lot more confident about it. Even being heavier, thinner, whatever. I feel a lot more like a woman. More feminine, more sensual. And no shame.”

Mrs. Carter is ready for more kids: “When I was younger, there were moments where I said, ‘I’m not going to have children,” Beyoncé said. “And then moments when I wanted four. And now I definitely want another, but I don’t know when.”

And a normal life for her kids is totally a priority in her hyper-normal world: “At some point it’s very important to me that my daughter is able to experience life and run through the sprinklers and have slumber parties and trust and live and do all the things that any child should be able to do,” Beyoncé said. “School visits and lemonade stands and all that stuff. It’s very important for me.”
