Hugh Jackman: Rumor that he’s gay ‘bugs’ his wife of 16 years

You know the Hugh Jackman rumor: The married, muscled actor is supposedly gay, according to — well, according to your friend who has a friend who is certain he’s gay.

Jackman sang a different tune to the Hollywood Reporter in an article published Wednesday that goes into detail about the actor’s life, weight, work, friends and more. It also mentions the gay rumors.

Turns out the person most upset by the rumors is Jackman’s wife of 16 years, Deborra-Lee Furness.

“Just recently, it bugs her,” he told the mag, explaining that she uses the Internet more than he does. “She goes: ‘It’s big. It’s everywhere!’”

The notion that the rumors are just a product of active imaginations — or perhaps wishful thinking? — was supported by “X-Men” producer Lauren Schuler Donner.

“I have seen him with Deborra since the beginning of their trip to Hollywood, and I’ve been on five movie sets with him and have never seen him stray, have never seen him eye anyone,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. “I met him when he did ‘Oklahoma!’ [at London’s Royal National Theatre in 1999]. He was genuine, hugely talented. He was in love with his wife that day and still is.”

Jackman met Furness, who’s 57 to his 44, on the set of his first professional acting gig after graduation from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. She was the star of “Correlli,” a TV series set in a prison.

“I was single when I met her, and she was single,” he said. “I was happy being single. I was out of a difficult relationship I’d had through drama school, and it was tumultuous and hard. I’d been living off 120 bucks a week as a student until I was 26. Then, when I met Deb, it was 10 times better than my single life. She was very beautiful. She was unbelievably fun — this energy, this spirit — irrepressible. And she had a confidence in herself.

“I had a massive crush on her instantly.”

They married in 1996 and have two adopted kids, Oscar and Ava.
