Tom Cruise’s house is target of prank call alleging armed robbery

Share

Usually when the words “shots fired” are linked to Tom Cruise, it’s in the context of a big-budget action movie. Not so Thursday, when Beverly Hills police surrounded the actor’s home just before noon in response to an emergency call that turned out to be yet another “swatting” hoax.

After receiving a report of an armed robbery in progress, police surrounded the home, according to L.A. Now.

However, “no emergency was discovered,” the Beverly Hills Police Department said in a news release. “Neither Mr. Cruise nor his family were home when the emergency was reported.”

The call didn’t originate from inside the home, police said. The only folks there at the time were security officers and a cook, police told TMZ.

Recent swatting incidents at the homes of Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber have been linked to a 12-year-old Southern California boy who was arrested Dec. 10, police told L.A. Now. An incident at Miley Cyrus’ house did not appear to be the work of the same suspect, police said.

“We take these incidents very seriously because of the tremendous potential for something tragic to occur,” LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith told L.A. Now in the wake of the boy’s arrest, regarding swatting in general.

The incident at Cruise’s house was being investigated as a crime because of the false report, Beverly Hills police said.
