Writer-director Phil Alden Robinson captured the fanciful nature of W.P. Kinsella’s novel “Shoeless Joe,” carved a baseball diamond into an Iowa corn field and created onscreen magic. Featuring a pitch-perfect cast led by Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, James Earl Jones and Ray Liotta, and a shiver-inducing score from composer James Horner, “Field” drew crowds to theaters 27 summers ago and spawned a cottage industry for nostalgia-seeking fans that continues today.
