One year after hilariously butchering Idina Menzel’s name as “Adele Dazeem,” John Travolta returned to the Academy Awards on Sunday to redeem himself and to get a taste of his own medicine. But if the two-time Oscar nominee managed to nail his pronunciation obligations this time around, his make-good wasn’t without its own awkward moment.

The gag began with Menzel stepping to the microphone to introduce her co-presenter for best original song: “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage my very dear friend, Glom Gazingo.”

A smiling Travolta appeared, gold envelope in hand, and the two embraced. “I deserve that,” Travolta said with a smile. “But you, my darling, my beautiful, my wickedly talented Idina Menzel.”

“You got it!” she cheered, then jokingly added, “It’s not like [‘Adele Dazeem’] is going to follow me around for the rest of my life or anything.”

“Yeah, tell me about it,” Travolta deadpanned.

It was a fun, playful exchange, though one made slightly weird by Travolta caressing Menzel’s face for a few seconds too long. Menzel, unflappable as she was last year, smiled through it and graciously — or sardonically — offered to handle presenting duties. (John Legend and Common won for “Glory.”)

Travolta didn’t escape getting needled again, however. During host Neil Patrick Harris’ end-of-show magic trick, he quipped, “John Travolta will be back next year to apologize to Idina for all the face touching.”
