The Civil Wars shutter tour due to ‘internal discord’

The Civil Wars have pulled the plug on the rest of their tour.

The Grammy-winning folk duo, who were in the middle of a European tour, announced they have canceled all of their upcoming live gigs due to “internal dischord.”

“We sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates. It is something we deeply regret,” Joy White and John Paul Williams wrote in a statement posted on their Facebook page Tuesday afternoon. “However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time.”

White and Williams nixed their current European tour, as well as next year’s scheduled trek to Australia and New Zealand.

Fans shouldn’t get too worried, however. The pair ended their statement thanking supporters and said they hope to get new music out in 2013.

The Civil Wars extended an additional olive branch, albeit a more expensive one, and wrote that fans could contact them to get reimbursed for travel expenses (of course, show tickets will be refunded). The duo said fans can attach receipts for otherwise nonrefundable travel expenses.

In February, the Civil Wars nabbed Grammys for country duo/group performance and folk album for its first full-length, “Barton Hollow.” They also won duo/group of the year at the Americana Music Honors and Awards but lost out to Thompson Square at last week’s Country Music Assn. Awards.
