Bon Jovi announces U.S. dates for 2013 tour

This post has been corrected, as indicated below.

With no new Bon Jovi studio album since 2009, fans of the age-defying arena-rock outfit have had to content themselves this year with “Aftermath of the Lowdown,” guitarist Richie Sambora’s strikingly confessional solo set.

That won’t be the case for much longer, though: This spring Bon Jovi is set to release “What About Now,” its first record since “The Circle,” and to support the disc the group is headed out on another of its globe-spanning arena treks.

On Tuesday morning Bon Jovi announced the first leg of dates on what it’s calling Because We Can — The Tour, which will launch Feb. 9 in Uncasville, Conn., and run through late July, when it stops for two nights at MetLife Stadium in the band’s home state of New Jersey. Bon Jovi is scheduled to play L.A.’s Staples Center on April 19; tickets for select shows go on sale beginning Nov. 30.

The last time Pop & Hiss caught the band, in 2010 at Anaheim’s Honda Center, Bon Jovi went surprisingly political, punctuating “Work for the Working Man” with bits of communist iconography; frontman Jon Bon Jovi even introduced “When We Were Beautiful” as an emblem of his effort to transition from what he called a “me decade” to a “we decade.”

No word on the show’s contents this time — other than the singer’s assurance (in a preview video you can watch below) that he wants to be great every night.

By all means, Jon, please.

[For the record, 4:08 p.m. Nov. 20: An earlier version of this post said tickets for Bon Jovi’s Staples Center show go on sale Nov. 30. The on-sale date for that show has yet to be announced.]
