Crowded House’s ‘Help Is Coming’ release aids Syrian refugees

New Zealand group Crowded House has released a rare track from 1995, “Help Is Coming,” for use in a new fund-raising campaign to aid refugees from Syria.

It’s being released on vinyl for the first time and sold as a 7-inch single in the U.K. on Sept. 28, with proceeds going to the Save the Children campaign. The song also can be downloaded from iTunes here for those in the U.S.

The song is providing a soundtrack to a short film by director Mat Whitecross about the refugees’ plight, noting that half of the world’s refugees in 2015 are children.

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch introduces the song and recites a poem by Somali British writer, poet and teacher Warsan Shire. The video includes instructions for texting donations in the U.K.

Among the viewer responses with the YouTube video of the film and song, one Save the Children staff member wrote from Greece, “Just wanted to say thank you, this is amazing. Every day here, you meet the most wonderful people fleeing the most horrific circumstances, and facing an incredibly hard journey ahead of them. Knowing there are many who are welcoming them makes such a huge difference, and they do know it.”
