Tyler, the Creator announces new album via his own app

Tyler, the Creator has never been constricted by too many filters on his creative life. But now he’s announced several new projects that promise even more of his ribald, often brillant output.

Golf Media, Tyler’s much-anticipated new mobile app, has gone live, and promises to be a one-stop source for his creative life. “I’m creating my own MTV or my own Cartoon Network,” he told the crowd at the Code/media conference in Dana Point in February, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Golf Media is basically my brain in one place,” Tyler wrote for its iTunes store description. “It does just about everything except cure asthma. If you find an app that cures asthma, definitely let me know.”

The app, created with former Yahoo and ABC executive Lloyd Braun’s firm Whalerock, is free for two months, and $5 a month thereafter, for a torrent of content thet will include streaming radio, original video, tour details and other emphemera from his vast Odd Future universe. In an analog throwback, the app’s subscription comes with a free issue of Golf magazine, Tyler’s print-side visual art journal.

There’s already a first bit of major news to come out of the app. Tyler has a new album, “Cherry Bomb,” that will be released Monday. The LP, timed to his upcoming Coachella set, is available for preorder with two immediate single downloads and the album reportedly features cameos from Kanye West and Lil Wayne.

The video for one of the singles (explicit lyrics) is out now, with a bevy of notable cameos: members of Black Lips, Toro y Moi and Charlie Wilson all make appearances. Tyler, naturally, directed it as well. Looks like this new app is the only way to keep up.
