London Olympics: Here’s one race Michael Phelps isn’t winning
Who’s the most-clicked athlete at the London Games? Hint: It’s not Michael Phelps.
According to NBC, that honor belongs to Gabby Douglas, the 16-year-old gymnast who has rocketed to Olympic stardom with two gold medals.
Douglas has trounced swimmer Phelps in page views on NBCOlympics.com so far, with 18.3 million views compared with Phelps’ 7 million.
With six days remaining in the Games, NBC revealed that it has surpassed 1.1 billion page views so far, which nearly equals the total for the entire Beijing Olympics four years ago.
The remainder of Olympians in the top 5 prove the allure of gymnastics for fans. Douglas’ teammate McKayla Maroney - who took a silver medal on Sunday - is No. 3 with 6 million, followed by fellow gymnasts Jordyn Wieber (5.9 million) and Aly Raisman (3 million).
