“Mad Men” may take place in the turbulent 1960s, but Don Draper just had his best year yet.

Season 5 was the most-watched so far for AMC’s ad-industry melodrama, with an average of 2.6 million total viewers, according to Nielsen. That was an increase of 15% over last season’s tally.

Sunday’s season finale was likewise the most-watched of all the season closers, with 2.7 million viewers. “Mad Men” stars Jon Hamm as morally conflicted ‘60s ad man Draper.

When DVR viewing is thrown in, the numbers look even better. An average of 4.2 million viewers overall watch the series either live or within one week of the original airing.

Another interesting stat: “Mad Men” continues to be most popular among affluent households. Nearly half of the show’s audience of adults aged 25 to 54 had a household income of $100,000 or more, making it cable TV’s most upscale show.
