Netflix is going big with its next original series. After tapping the talents of David Fincher and Eli Roth for previous productions, the online outfit is getting Andy and Lana Wachowski, creators of “The Matrix” series, who will work with J. Michael Straczynski, best known as creator of the groundbreaking science fiction series “Babylon 5.”

Netflix has done political thriller (“House of Cards”), horror (the upcoming “Hemlock Grove”) and comedy (the upcoming resurrection of “Arrested Development”), so it makes sense that science fiction is next on its development slate.

The series, titled “Sense8,” is described as “a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted.”

In a statement, the filmmaking siblings said: “Several years ago, we had a late night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox ‘Sense8’ was born.”

Straczynski will be the series showrunner. The 10-episode series will arrive on Netflix in late 2014.

Meanwhile, the Wachowskis are about to begin production on their next big-screen film, “Jupiter Ascending,” with Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.
