Mun2 to remember late singer Jenni Rivera with tribute programming

On the cusp of the one year anniversary of Latin music star Jenni Rivera’s death, mun2 — the bilingual cable network where Rivera’s family has thrived with various reality shows and specials — will remember the late singer with programming blocks in November and December.

“I Love Jenni,” in which Rivera served as executive producer, premiered in March 2011 and gave viewers a glimpse into Rivera’s chaotic lifestyle as a mother of five and a full-charge music star. It would become the highest-rated original reality series for the mun2. The network produced more than 70 hours of content over three seasons, so there’s plenty to look back on.

The tribute programming will begin with a Thanksgiving night marathon (Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. ET/PT). The reairing of the wedding special of Jenni’s daughter Jacqui’s will kick off the block. It will be followed with a “We Love Jenni” special featuring celebrities and friends remembering the singer. The night will be capped off with two back-to-back Thanksgiving episodes of “I Love Jenni.”

On Dec. 9, the day Rivera died in a plane crash in Mexico last year, the network will dedicate the day to airing all episodes of the final season of “I Love Jenni,” which was shot prior to and after her fatal accident. And the network wants to make it a social affair, hosting a “live, on-air Twitter event” from 2 to 10 p.m. ET for fans to share their memories of Rivera.

“Jenni Rivera is in our hearts and this network’s soul,” said Diana Mogollon, executive vice president and general manager of mun2, in a statement. “We have painstakingly strived to showcase her life just as she lived it: fiercely, with love, laughter, outrageous activities, and conversations that made you laugh, surprised you and always made you grateful to be a small part of her life. She is an Icon, a Latina, mother, daughter, sister and friend who never forgot her beginnings or her heritage.”

The network will also premiere three new specials in December that will include unseen footage of Rivera.

Meanwhile, legal matters surrounding the fateful day are still active. Relatives of the other passengers that perished in the crash, all part of Rivera’s team, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Starwood, the operators of the downed jet, and the singer’s company in January. Earlier this week, a superior court judge rejected a motion by Starwood to have the case dismissed in California to moved to Mexico.
