‘How to Get Away with Murder’ recap: More bodies, more mystery

Share

Just when you thought you couldn’t get the image of Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) gasping for breath in a puddle of her own blood out of your mind, the latest episode of “How To Get Away With Murder” takes you another step deeper into the mystery of who shot Annalise.

Picking up right from where the pulse-pounding cliffhanger left off, we see Wes (Alfred Enoch) run into the woods to meet his fellow students Michaela (Aja Naomi King) and Laurel (Karla Souza), who are looking for Connor (Jack Falahee), who is still up in the house by Annalise’s side -- for students learning how to get away with murder they don’t seem to use much of their knowledge.

After this little glimpse into the future, the episode rewinds back two months to when Annalise and the Keating Five are working on the case of Caleb (Kendrick Sampson) and Catherine (Amy Okuda), two siblings that are accused of killing their adoptive parents, at the same time as Nate Lahey (Billy Brown) is on trial for Sam’s (Tom Verica) murder.

It is the day of Nate’s trail, and Annalise is taking the stand as a witness for the prosecution. However, she finds herself more suspect than witness during prosecutor Emily’s (Sarah Burns) questioning -- which leads to an epic monologue moment from the newly minted Emmy-winner.

With Annalise gone, Bonnie (Liza Weil) takes the lead in the siblings’ case and enlists the help of Frank (Charlie Weber) and the Keating Five to find a reason why Caleb’s DNA was found at his aunt’s murder scene.

Michaela makes a major breakthrough in the case after watching defense attorney (and Annalise’s former lover) Eve (Famke Janssen) attack Annalise and accuse her of planting Nate’s DNA on Sam’s ring. Thinking the police could have easily done the same thing to the siblings, Connor enlists his boyfriend Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) -- who isn’t too happy with his partner for disclosing the fact that he is HIV-positive to his colleagues -- to hack into a polices database to prove their theory.

Lo and behold, the police filed two separate DNA reports from the aunt’s crime scene; the first one was deleted because it didn’t show anything at the scene, but the one run six hours later reported Caleb’s DNA was found there.

Bonnie goes to tell Annalise the good news about the doctored police reports. However, Annalise, still reeling from Bonnie murdering Rebecca (Katie Findlay), lashes out at Bonnie and says that she did not save her, but ruined her instead -- is anyone else really intrigued about their history?

Back at Nate’s trial, the judge finds the fact that Annalise was the one more on trial (and she was just a witness) than Nate as grounds to set him free and make the prosecution continue to gather more solid evidence against either him or Annalise.

After the ruling comes in, Eve drops by to visit Annalise to apologize for attacking her on the witness stand. Eve admits that she attacked her personally because she is still upset about Annalise leaving her for Sam. However, Annalise assures Eve that she was the best thing that ever happened to her -- honestly, it is becoming increasingly difficult to tell when Annalise is being sincere or just manipulating someone.

In the final minutes of the episode, viewers are left with a signature “How To Get Away With Murder” cliffhanger as we flash forward two months again to find Annalise on the floor of the siblings’ mansion, bleeding from a gunshot wound. As Wes, Michaela, Laurel and Connor -- they say Asher (Matt McGorry) is the dumb one but he is the only one of the five not to be involved in murder(s), just saying -- leave the house in a hurry, they run right past Emily, who is lying dead at the steps of the mansion.

So what did you think of the episode? Who do you think shot Annalise and killed Emily? Sound off in the comments and check back for what trouble Annalise and her crew get themselves into next week.

Suspects so far in Annalise’s shooting:

Wes: He looked awfully guilty running from that house, didn’t he?

Connor: While by her side, he kept saying that this was her fault and that everything was her fault. Could he have pulled the trigger?

Caleb and Catherine: I mean, the shooting took place at their mansion. It looks a bit suspicious.

Best quote: “You screw up again, you are going to be the next dead body in this house” -- Annalise Keating
