The Los Angeles Fashion Council is getting ready to take a slate of L.A.-based designers to Japan’s upcoming fashion week.

According to a “state of the union” announcement posted to the group’s website Monday by LAFC director Kelsi Smith, a partnership with the organizers of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo means a handful of local designers will be headed to Tokyo in mid-March.

We caught up with Smith earlier Tuesday to find out more about the jaunt to Japan and she shared the following details:

--The designers will be showcased in a multidesigner hybrid presentation/showroom format (similar to the way the British Fashion Council stages the London Showrooms here in Los Angeles).

--The LAFC showcase will take place for one day only -- March 17 -- the first day of the March 17-22 run of Tokyo shows.

--So far, the list of local labels set to tune in to Tokyo include Katharine Kidd, Bohemian Society, Linden and Rose La Grua (all of whom were part of the LAFC lineup of spring-summer 2014 shows staged in October at the Grove).

Most importantly -- especially if you’re an L.A.-based label not on the above list -- is that Smith says she’s still got room to add two more designers to the mix. (Interested parties can contact the LAFC by email.)
