Michelle Obama wore a draped-sleeve, dropped-shoulder gray tulle embroidered gown by Marchesa to the 100th White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday. She accessorized with drop earrings and a large ring.

The annual dinner and scholarship fundraiser has, of course, grown to involve a whole lot of people other than journalists. Although plenty of media bigs were there (Barbara Walters, Ronan Farrow, Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Wolf Blitzer, George Stephanopoulos, Diane Sawyer, Arianna Huffington, to name a few), also represented were the worlds of fashion (designers Cynthia Rowley and Tory Burch, makeup maven Bobbi Brown, models Irina Shayk and Linda Evagelista), sports (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tim Tebow, Lindsey Vonn) and entertainment (Kristen Bell, Sofia Vergara, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Emile Hirsch, Patrick Stewart, Willie Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” and many, many, many more).

Among the night’s eye-catchers was actress Lupita Nyong’o, stunning in a strapless black and white polka dot Oscar de la Renta gown with a peplum. Jessica Simpson radiated elegance in a black and white floral print by Carolina Herrera that emphasized her now tiny waist. Diane Lane played the lady in red in a lovely drop-shoulder satin gown, and Olivia Munn went with a form-fitting J Mendel creation in a muted creamy blush color.

Rose McGowan sported an interesting choice by Ulyana Sergeenko: a black gown with a train that cut away at the top to reveal a nude bodice that looked to me a little too much like a long-line bra.

Among the men, Brooks Brothers took credit for dressing a number of them, including “Glee’s” Darren Criss and Matthew Morrison; “Modern Family’s” Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his husband, Justin Mikita; and “Scandal’s” Scott Foley and Tony Goldwyn.
