New York Fashion Week: Phillip Lim gets quirky

NEW YORK -- Phillip Lim presented his fall 2014 runway show at the post office building in midtown on Monday afternoon, sending out lots of bold, powdery colors and prints.

The inspiration: “A fun and culturally curious woman,” which Lim went so far as to name “Soleil,” according to the show notes. “Her world is somewhere between instant pop and culture.” (Whatever that means.)

The look: Peacock-ish.

Key pieces: Color-block “Soleil” print mid-length dress. Cuffed, printed denim trouser jeans. Powdery lilac shearling denim-style jacket. Patchwork trench with pink shearling collar. Whimsical knits, including a black crochet turtleneck with a side ruffle. Draped ivory-and-black color-block satin dress. Block heel boots.

The verdict: Not the home run that last season was. This collection was quirky almost to a fault, which seems out of step with Lim’s brand DNA.
