Lupita Nyong’o, this awards show season’s style star, will be wearing Ralph Lauren to the Golden Globes tonight. The style is a red silk cady cape dress from the 2014 spring runway, and it could be the biggest red carpet moment for the American designer since Gwyneth Paltrow wore his petal pink taffeta princess gown to the 1999 Oscars.

Nyong’o is nominated for supporting actress in a film for her breakout role in director Steve McQueen’s “12 Years a Slave.”

I’m looking forward to seeing Nyong’o in this dramatic style, which is a bit reminiscent of the white Tom Ford cape-and-gown look Paltrow wore to the 2012 Oscars.

A Yale School of Drama graduate, Nyong’o is styled by Micaela Erlanger. She has been working the red carpet circuit since September and hasn’t made a misstep. She has shown remarkable range, and every look she has chosen has been special. Just over the weekend alone, she wore a white hot jersey Altuzarra dress to the Los Angeles Film Critics Assn. Awards, and a ladylike Mary Katrantzou blue landscape print fit-and-flare dress to the DuJour Magazine celebration of “The Great Performances” issue. She also rocked Peter Pilotto and Victoria Beckham looks.

It was recently announced that Nyong’o will star in the Miu Miu spring 2014 advertising campaign.
