Shopping L.A.: Sales, events at Teen Vogue’s Back-to-School day

Stars such as Nikki Reed and Rebecca Romijn turned out last week when Brazilian luxury brand Carmen Steffens opened its first U.S. store at Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood. The store offers handcrafted shoes, bags and other accessories. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. The store is located at the entrance to the Awards Walk at the shopping complex, 6801 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood.

Attention back-to-school shoppers. Teen Vogue has declared this Saturday a “national shopping holiday” called Back-to-School Saturday. All that really means is that participating retailers and brands plan to offer various discounts, giveaways and other special promotions. Organizers say via news release, “Think Black Friday meets Cyber Monday for kids and teens.” Among the participants are Gap, Kohl’s, Maybelline, H&M;, Guess, AG Jeans, Sheseido, P&G;, Staples, American Eagle, Aeropostale and more. Shoppers can download the Teen Vogue Insider app for iPhone or iPod Touch so they can check in at participating stores and earn points to win prizes from the magazine.

A sampling of notable special events planned as part of Back-to-School Saturday:

--Musical performance by Cher Lloyd at 1 p.m. followed by a fashion show hosted by Shay Mitchell of “Pretty Little Liars” at 2 p.m. at The Grove, 189 The Grove Dr., Los Angeles.

--Personal styling by fashion blogger Liz Cherk at AG Jeans, from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at 329 N. Beverly Dr., Beverly Hills.

--Shopping, live music, manicures, treats and an appearance by “Modern Family’s” Ariel Winter at the new Madison T designer shop for teens, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at 1017 Swarthmore Ave., Pacific Palisades.

EVENTS

Folklore Salon in Echo Park and Imperial Barber Products offer A Gentleman’s Night Out, from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday. Men’s cleanup cuts will be $15, women’s bang trims $10 and a “facial refresh” treatment $5. Complimentary beer, coffee and snacks will be served. The salon is at 1102 Mohawk St., Los Angeles.

Jewelry designer and stylist Beth Bernstein is to sign her new book “My Charmed Life” beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Kamofie Jewelry, 1350 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Ste. 102, Venice.

Ilori, a luxury eyewear boutique, is scheduled to open Friday at The Americana at Brand, 220 Americana Way, Glendale. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 pm. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

St. Pucchi bridal has opened a Los Angeles flagship at Sunset Plaza, 8649 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call (310) 601-7604.

The Helms Design District Vintage Boutique’s second annual summer bargain event -- no item priced more than $50 -- is slated for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at LightSpace Studio, 8755 Washington Blvd., Culver City. The event is hosted by Clever Vintage Clothing of Los Angeles, and numerous vendors from around Southern California will be represented. Entry at the door is $5 but free and discounted special tickets can be found in advance on Eventbrite.
