Katy Perry, Sofia Vergara liven Washington correspondents’ dinner

They call it the “nerd’s ball,” but the Washington correspondents’ dinner on Saturday was anything but, with a dazzling array of Hollywood stars brightening things up. Katy Perry, Hayden Panettiere and Barbra Streisand mingled with grizzled journalism vets and talking heads. Sofia Vergara, for instance, was spotted laughing with Bill O’Reilly.

Despite all the stars, Los Angeles Times fashion critic Booth Moore says that when it came to fashion, all eyes were on First Lady Michelle Obama, who was wearing a beaded black lace gown by Los Angeles designer Monique Lhuillier. [Los Angeles Times]

Hair that looked very 1970s Farrah Fawcett was on trend at the dinner, as seen on Vergara, Claire Danes and Beth Behrs, People reports. [People]

Teri Hatcher presided over a celebrity yard sale on Saturday in Glendale that included merchandise like a cashmere sweater from Ellen DeGeneres and sexy high heels from “Modern Family’s” Julie Bowen. Proceeds from the sale were to benefit the Juvenile Arthritis Assn. [Glendale News-Press]
