Claire Danes, Allison Williams, Kiernan Shipka: Best Pre-Emmy looks

The Emmys red carpet race doesn’t officially kick off until Sunday afternoon, but the fashion show really started in L.A. over weekend, with a swirl of pre-awards-show parties and photo ops.

The best looks of the weekend captured the fun, flirty 1950s vibe running through fashion right now. That meant dresses with short or tea-length full skirts and festive prints. (At fashion week, one of the most popular looks among editors and bloggers in the front row was a very Audrey Hepburn-looking white, button-down shirt tucked into a full, knee-length or below skirt.)

At the Showtime Emmy Eve Soiree, “Homeland” star Claire Danes looked impeccable as always in a Lanvin strapless butterfly effect jacquard dress with full skirt from the French fashion house’s fall-winter 2013 collection.

Meanwhile, at the BAFTA Tea, “Girls” actress Allison Williams wore a cheerful botanical print dress from the spring-summer 2014 Oscar de la Renta collection, shown on the runway just days ago during New York Fashion Week.

And 13-year-old Kiernan Shipka gave big exposure to the reemerging Spanish brand Delpozo at the Vanity Fair/Maybelline AMC “Mad Men” party. The architectural, double-faced wool dress from the fall Delpozo collection by creative director Josep Font was quirky and cute. I noted in my review of the Delpozo spring collection last week that the brand is a perfect fit for young Hollywood. Let’s hope we see more of it on the red carpet.
