At W Hollywood, pure Bliss

Share

While Hollywood gets its long overdue makeover, you can join in by getting pampered at Bliss spa, which is scheduled to open in the new W Hollywood on Feb. 4.

Launched by Canadian Marcia Kilgore in New York’s SoHo in 1996, Bliss is considered a pioneer in making day spas chic and fun instead of clinical. Now with nearly 22 locations worldwide, Bliss gives treatments silly names -- Quadruple Thighpass for an anti-cellulite treatment -- and conducts tongue-in-cheek promotional campaigns. Bliss Spa at the W Hollywood launches with billboards proclaiming: “For a good time call 877-to-bliss.”

Now owned by spa operator Steiner Leisure, Bliss is integrated into the W Hollywood, with a reception and boutique area off the hotel’s second-level “red carpet” entrance. The 7,000-square-foot, blue-hued Bliss spa occupies the hotel’s fourth floor, featuring a VIP nail area with flat-screen TVs and a conveyor belt for beverages; a ladies’ lounge with makeup stations; saunas and steam showers; and aesthetician and massage treatment rooms.

Because Bliss is in a hotel, patrons can book a massage poolside, on the VIP decks or even on the balcony of the soon-to-open Drai’s nightclub.

Since it’s a stone’s throw from the Kodak Theatre, Bliss at W Hollywood will focus on red carpet preps, including the popular Triple Oxygen Treatment ($160 for 75 minutes) and the Youth as We Know It ($185, 60 minutes), with an anti-aging mushroom enzyme peel. New treatments include the Best of Skintentions ($120, 60 minutes), which features exfoliation, extractions and an individual treatment mask. The spa also performs microdermabrasion.

“Everything in Hollywood is about face -- image and presentation,” says Glenn Dellimore, Bliss at the W Hollywood’s general manager. “But it’s Hollywood without the snobby attitude.”

The spa also will offer the latest in mani-pedi treatments, including trendy Minx appliqués, and the “manly-cure” men’s manicure ($25).

Massages, scrubs and slimming treatments include offerings such as the Carrot and Sesame Body Buff scrub treatment ($165, 90 minutes), the Fatgirlslim heated wrap ($150, 75 minutes) and the Blissage 75, a “tension-taming” massage for knotty muscles ($150, 75 minutes).

And, of course, no Bliss would be complete without a complimentary brownie bar featuring some made with Champagne, including one flavored with Veuve Clicquot.
