Battle of the Burgers 2013: Check out this Texas Luau burger

Share

Have you entered your burger yet in our third-annual Battle of the Burgers? There’s still time -- submissions end June 3 at 5 p.m.

In the meantime, check out the competition with this submission from Richard Ameil of Santa Cruz, Calif.:

“Texas barbecue meets Hawaiian luau. The Texas Luau Burger! Your taste buds will get the best of both worlds: the sweet Hawaiian pineapple, the tanginess of the teriyaki barbecue sauce, the saltiness of the hickory-smoked bacon and the heat filled jalapeños all balanced by the sharp goat cheddar cheese. This burger rocks (or should I say hulas)! It’s a knockout! Burger aficionados will be climbing Diamond Head and singing Yippee-I-O-Aloha!”

Think you can do better? Well, don’t just sit there! Show us. Enter our third-annual Battle of the Burgers. Did I mention that the deadline for submissions is June 3 at 5 p.m?

Go to our L.A. Times Food Facebook page and submit your burger recipe, along with a short essay about why yours is the most amazing burger of all time. Include a photo if you can; voters will want to see proof. (Nancy’s photo is pretty tempting!)

We’ll take top vote-getters and try out the burgers in The Times Test Kitchen. The top five Burgermeisters will get an invite to the Los Angeles Times to have their picture taken with their top burger. We’ll feature the photos and recipes in our Daily Dish blog as well as our issue of the L.A. Times Food section that celebrates the Fourth of July. Look for that to come out June 29.
