Spam ice cream sandwiches, a Filipino BBQ in Chinatown, plus LA Pride specials this weekend

Keeping up with the L.A. restaurant and bar scene is hard work. So we’ve put together some events happening this week for you — because you can never have enough Filipino food, or ice cream.

Alvin Cailan (Unit 120 and Eggslut) and Michael Hung (Viviane) have teamed up to host a Filipino BBQ at the Far East Plaza in Chinatown. From 7 to 10 Thursday night, the chefs will prepare an all-you-can-eat menu of Filipino-inspired dishes, including chicken adobo, grilled pork tocino, beef picadillo, garlic fried rice and cassava cake. There also will be beer, wine and cocktails from Darwin Pornel (Faith & Flower). Tickets are $50 and include admission and the buffet. VIP tickets are $75 and allow early entry at 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit No Kid Hungry, an organization that works to end childhood hunger in America. Tickets can be purchased here. Far East Plaza, Mezzanine Level, 727 N. Broadway, Los Angeles.

La Bohéme in West Hollywood will be serving a special small bites and happy hour menu throughout the weekend. Expect $4 seared ahi tacos, truffle risotto balls, shrimp ceviche and pork belly sliders. And you can order $1 rainbow Jello shots at the bar (limit one per customer). 8400 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, (323) 848-2360, www.globaldiningca.com/laboheme.

Gracias Madre, the vegan Mexican restaurant, will have a specialty cocktail from beverage director Jason Eisner, and a special dessert from Chef Chandra Gilbert. To drink, the Pimp My Pride ($14), made with mezcal Espadin, pineapple, muddled jalapeno, bitters, coconut and foamed Aqua Faba. For dessert, the Pride Trifle ($11), made with a rainbow of fruit coulis (strawberry, mango, pineapple, kiwi, blueberry and raspberry) layered between pecan shortbread. 8905 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood, (323) 978-2170, www.graciasmadreweho.com.

Taste on Melrose will have a Pride cake made by executive pastry chef Katie Shyne. The layered rainbow cake features vanilla chiffon cake with raspberry, matcha and yuzu fillings with a white chocolate and vanilla sprinkled BonBon. The cake is priced at $10 a slice, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Los Angeles LGBT Center. 8454 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood, (323) 852-6888, www.ilovetaste.com.

Coolhaus, the ice cream sandwich truck and scoop shops, and Hanjip, the Culver City Korean BBQ joint, have teamed up to make some pretty outrageous ice cream sandwiches. Hanjip chef Chris Oh developed three flavors, including an ice cream sandwich with actual French fries and another with Spam. The Korean Chili Fries sandwich includes shoestring French fries and red bean ice cream between one of Coolhaus’ Snack Food chip cookies made with butterscotch, pretzels and potato chips. The Hawaiian Pizza sandwich includes pineapple ice cream and Spam pieces between white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. And the Korean Cookies & Cream flavor includes Tahitian vanilla ice cream with Korean Choco pies between chocolate-covered Whoopee pie cookies. Because, why not? The sandwiches launched at the restaurant this week and the Coolhaus truck will be parked outside the restaurant from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Those dining at Hanjip will receive a voucher for a free ice cream sandwich from the truck. 3829 Main St., Culver City, (323) 720-8804, www.hanjip.com.

L.A. Pride, the annual multiday festival celebrating the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, is happening this weekend in West Hollywood. Some restaurants in the area are offering specials to celebrate.

Ivory on Sunset, Brian Malarkey’s restaurant at the Mondrian L.A., is mixing up a special cocktail called the Oscar Wilde. It’s a combination of Bacardi, St. Germaine, raspberry syrup, lime juice and mint leaves. The cocktail is priced at $14. 8440 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, (323) 848-6000, www.ivoryonsunset.com.
