Passover pop-up, Italian style: KCRW’s Evan Kleiman does haroset and pollo arrosto

Share

Passover’s just a few weeks away. And Evan Kleiman, host of KCRW’s “Good Food” and owner of the erstwhile trattoria Angeli Caffe on Melrose Avenue, is getting ready.

In preparation for Passover Seder, the feast that commemorates the Jewish holiday, Kleiman is making an Italian-inspired Passover dinner at the Skirball Cultural Center on March 21.

Served family-style and prepared with Skirball executive chef Sean Sheridan, the dinner will celebrate the spring garden. Her Seder dish haroset includes dates, dried Turkish apricots, oranges, raisins, nuts and spices, and romaine lettuce. Pesce en carpione is sauteed white fish marinated with caramelized onions in a mustard-Champagne vinaigrette.

Also on the menu are pollo arrosto, chicken cooked in garlic, rosemary and lemon; tortino di azzime, a “mazzagna” of vegetables and fresh tomato basil sauce; leek croquettes and Passover dessert.

The dinner takes place at 7 p.m., and advance tickets, available online, are required. Admission is $65 ($52 for Skirball members).
