Three wine events this weekend and beyond

Wine buffs, check your calendars for a few worthy wine events coming up this week and next:

Paso Roble’s second annual Garagiste Festival continues this weekend. The four-day event (which began Thursday with a dinner by Ludovic Lefebvre) features four dozen “garagiste” (i.e., producing fewer than 1,200 cases a year) winemakers pouring their best bottles at Windfall Farms’ Stallion Barn in Paso Robles. Saturday is a day of seminars and tastings followed by an after-party. And if you want to stay over until Sunday, there will be an 11 a.m. symposium on winemaking for would-be vintners.

On Wednesday, Chinois on Main in Santa Monica hosts a winemaker dinner presenting the wines of Kesner, Marcassin, Robert Biale Vineyards, Abreu Vineyards, Cayuse Vineyards and Karl Lawrence Cellars with a menu by Wolfgang Puck and Chinois chef Rene Mata. Reception with the winemakers begins at 7 p.m., with dinner to follow at 8 p.m. $295 includes menu, wine, tax and gratuity. For reservations, call (310) 392-9025.

A five-day extravaganza, the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival kicks off that same day and is stuffed with wine tastings and cooking classes, including Roy Yamaguchi of Roy’s, pastry chef Gale Gand and the Hearty Boys. Unless you have all five days to burn, you’ll probably want to head south on Saturday to attend the Grand Tasting on Nov. 17, with a lineup of 200 wineries, breweries and spirits producers, plus 70 San Diego chefs and food purveyors.
