Kings of Leon cancels tour; are singer’s health issues deeper?

The Kings of Leon stunned fans when the band canceled its entire U.S. tour after an unfortunate Dallas concert in which lead singer Caleb Followill abruptly left the stage saying “I’m going to go backstage and I’m going to vomit, I’m going to drink a beer...”

While the band’s official line is that Followill is suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion, band member and brother Jared Followill suggested there were deeper issues involved, tweeting on July 29, “Dallas, I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am. There are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed. No words.”

The next day, he told Twitter followers, “I know you guys aren’t stupid. I can’t lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.”

The move strikes a chord so soon after British soulstress Amy Winehouse passed away last month -- the “Rehab” singer had struggled with alcohol and substance issues. Winehouse had canceled her entire tour after a disastrous performance in June in which she stumbled through the song set.

Winehouse’s family members alleged that Winehouse died after she detoxed from alcohol quickly. It’s possible, hypothetically speaking -- cold turkey isn’t always the best idea, a medical expert told health writer Jeannine Stein.
