Charity shopping event benefits kids with mental illness

Shoppers who want to find good stuff and do good deeds at the same time can head to Fred Segal Santa Monica tonight for “An Evening of Gratitude.”
The event, which will feature Gratitude Designs by Tara Dixon, will benefit the Flawless Foundation, which creates and supports programs that advocate for better care for children with mental illness and neuro-developmental challenges. Michael and Susan Schofield, the parents of Jani, a child featured in a 2009 story in The Times, will be on hand to talk about their experience.
Few low-cost, quality programs are available to assist the families of very young children with mental illness. Even older children often do not receive the intensive care necessary to remain at home or function well in school.
The event will be hosted by ZeroMinusPlus at Fred Segal, which will donate 10% of all sales for the evening to the foundation. The store is at 500 Broadway in Santa Monica. Admission is free. Here’s the RSVP link.
