Birding while sipping a beer atop the Ace Hotel?

As part of Bird Day L.A.’s many city events celebrating the region’s biodiversity, a May 7 exploration and Q&A on the hotel roof will hopefully showcase the huge colonies of swifts and raptors swooping for prey around the skyscrapers of DTLA.

National Park Service ranger Anthony Bevilacqua and local Auduboners will be on hand to offer tips, binoculars, guides and maps so anyone 21 and older can learn about the 400 species of feathered friends that hunt, nest and fly all over Los Angeles.

Why the age limit?

You’ll also toast the city’s avian residents with a cocktail from the Ace’s soon-to-fly-away bird-themed menu — perhaps a Laughing Falcon, Pink Flamingo or California Condor.
