Flames erupted Thursday morning in the old Ruby’s Diner at the end of Seal Beach Pier and sent a column of smoke over the area.

The fire erupted just after 7:30 a.m. inside the abandoned restaurant in the 900 block of Ocean Avenue in Seal Beach.

Flames were spotted burning under the pier with fire extending to the restaurant, said Lt. Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority.
