Lois Smith: In the Oct. 8 Calendar section, an article about actress Lois Smith said that in the film “Five Easy Pieces,” she played the mother of Jack Nicholson’s character. In fact, she played the sister of Nicholson’s character.

Nobel Prize in physics: In the Oct. 8 Section A, an article about the winners of the Nobel Prize in physics said that UC Santa Barbara is in Isla Vista. It is in an adjacent unincorporated part of Santa Barbara County.
