For the record - Feb. 24, 2011
Grammy number cruncher: A graphic that accompanied an article about Grammy Award statistics in the Feb. 12 Calendar listed the six artists who were said to have received the most awards in the top three Grammy performance categories: album of the year, record of the year and best new artist. In fact, the list was for most nominations in those categories. Several of the figures were wrong. Frank Sinatra received 15 nominations, not 14; Henry Mancini received seven nominations, not eight; and Paul Simon received 12, not 11, including four, not three, as part of Simon & Garfunkel. Additionally, a photo caption with the article identified Natalie Cole as the native Angeleno with the most major performance Grammy wins, with victories as artist of the year, song of the year and album of the year. Her wins were for best new artist, record of the year and album of the year.
Midwest unions: An article in the Feb. 19 LATExtra section about labor unrest in the Midwest erroneously reported one result of a Pew Research Center survey on views of organized labor. The survey found that 51% of Americans think unions are needed to improve working people’s lives, not 61%.
Big Brothers: An article in the Feb. 21 LATExtra about the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization said Joe Egender took his “little brother” Bill Kirkpatrick III to see Dr. Dre in concert. The artist they went to see was Drake.
China photography: A photo caption with an article in the Feb. 23 Calendar on China photography exhibits at Southland museums misspelled the name of Li Hongzhang as Li Johngzhang.
