Earthquake: 4.2 temblor strikes east of Bakersfield

A shallow magnitude 4.2 earthquake was reported Sunday morning 12 miles from Weldon, Calif., and east of Bakersfield, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 11:50 a.m. PDT at a depth of 0.6 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 25 miles from Tehachapi, California, 29 miles from California City, California, 35 miles from Ridgecrest, California and 265 miles from Carson City, Nevada.

In the past 10 days, there have been two earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
