Earthquake: 4.0 quake strikes near Alta Vista, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 4.0 earthquake was reported Monday morning two miles from Alta Vista, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 10:55 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 5.0 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 72 miles from Sanger, Calif., and 74 miles from Reedley, Calif.

In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
