2 people killed when Amtrak train hits car in Oxnard

Two people were killed Tuesday night when their vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train in Oxnard, disrupting transit service in Ventura County.

The accident was reported shortly before 7:30 p.m. near 5th Street and Rice Avenue, the Oxnard Police Department said.

Amtrak said buses were being sent for passengers on Train 11, which was stopped on the tracks while investigators gathered evidence.

The stoppage also affected Metrolink’s Ventura County 123 Line, the transit agency said. Passengers were being picked up by a bus at the Moorpark station.

Television news footage showed investigators using flash lights as they scoured the area near the train tracks.
