9/11 anniversary: Ceremonies to honor victims of terrorist attacks

Several public events and somber remembrances are scheduled for the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, including a ceremony outside Dodger Stadium.

Mayor Eric Garcetti and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck will join Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas at 10 a.m. at the Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center, 1700 N. Stadium Way, where a retired New York firefighter, Paul Geidel, will offer a keynote address.

An emergency vehicle that was active the morning of the attacks and responded to the World Trade Center at the time of the building collapses will also be there. The ceremony ends at noon.

Los Angeles firefighters are also hosting a remembrance at 7 a.m. at the LAFD Museum and Fallen Firefighter Memorial, 1355 N. Cahuenga Blvd. in Hollywood, and at 6:30 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial Fountain, 5101 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Sherman Oaks.

The West Los Angeles Vet Center in Culver City and Veterans Affairs in Chatsworth are hosting open houses Thursday, and the Beverly Hills 9/11 Memorial Garden, 445 N. Rexford Drive, will have a short event at 5 p.m.

At Pepperdine University, the school president will lead a ceremony from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. at the Heroes Garden. A university alumnus died on the United 93 flight that crashed in Pennsylvania.

Cities throughout the San Gabriel Valley are also hosting individual events.
