Coast Guard searches for body of man in waters off Dana Point
The Coast Guard had planned to search through the night for the body of a 60-year-old man who vanished Saturday in the surf off Dana Point, according to news reports.
The man’s family sought help from a lifeguard after the swimmer slipped under a large wave at Salt Creek Beach about 11:45 a.m., the Associated Press reported.
Lifeguards, snorkelers and helicopter crews spent hours searching for the man before the effort turned into a recovery mission, according to the AP. The swimmer’s name was not released.
Coast Guard officials could not be reached for comment late Saturday night.
