Sunset Boulevard shut down after multi-vehicle crash in East Hollywood

Sunset Boulevard was closed in both directions Sunday night after three vehicles and a truck collided in East Hollywood, sparking a fire that threatened businesses in the area, authorities said.

The collision occurred about 8:30 p.m. along Sunset Boulevard near Mariposa Avenue. About 35 firefighters responded and knocked down the fire within 10 minutes, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The truck was parked and unoccupied, and after the crash, it was fully engulfed in flames. The blaze also ignited a nearby palm tree, Humphrey said.

Authorities initially warned that the fire posed a hazard to area businesses. A nearby pharmacy sustained damage to its exterior.

A woman suffered a minor injury in the crash but declined to be taken to the hospital, Humphrey said.
