A former San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy was arrested on suspicion of engaging in sexual activity with several women detained at a Joshua Tree jail, authorities said.
Brian Derryberry, 24, was taken into custody Friday in connection with participating in sex acts with the female inmates in the Morongo Basin Jail, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Derryberry, who started working with the department in April 2014, no longer works for the Sheriff’s Department. He was last assigned to the Morongo Basin sheriff’s station.
Detectives began investigating Derryberry on July 1 when they received information that he was engaging in sexual activity with a woman jailed at the Morongo facility, at 6527 White Feather Road, sheriff’s officials said.
As the investigation unfolded, detectives said they got “credible evidence” that Derryberry had some form of sexual contact with numerous woman at the jail.
Derryberry was booked into the High Desert Detention Center and was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
