Fourteen colleges and universities have received $50 million in state educational awards for their innovative work, state officials said Friday.

The awards were part of last year’s budget and went to schools including Cal State San Bernardino for its collaboration with other colleges that increased the number of undergraduate degrees awarded in the area; Long Beach City College for its work to raise the number of students who transfer and earn a bachelor’s degree within four years; and UCLA for its partnership with K-12 districts to train teachers.

Fifty-two schools submitted proposals and a committee chaired by Gov. Jerry Brown’s finance director chose the winners.
