Would-be bank robber changes mind, flees on bike, police say
A man believed to be in his 70s who attempted to rob a bank in South Lake Tahoe before fleeing on a bike remains at large, authorities said.
The suspect walked inside the El Dorado Savings Bank in the 3000 block of Lake Tahoe Boulevard about 3:30 p.m. Thursday and “passed a demand note to a teller,” police said.
The man then “appeared to change his mind about following through with the robbery,” according to a news release from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
“The suspect left through the front doors and rode a bicycle ... away from the bank,” according to the release. “The bicycle is described as a white or chrome girl’s style frame with a large basket on the front and a black bag affixed to the back.”
The suspect remains at large.
