Search continues for driver who fatally struck probation officer
The search continues for the driver of a Honda Civic who allegedly struck a Los Angeles County probation officer riding his motorcycle, who died when he was sent crashing into a pole.
Los Angeles police described the vehicle as a silver four-door Honda Civic DX model between the years 1996 and 2000. The driver was headed southbound on Soto Street at Lancaster Street in Boyle Heights about 5:50 a.m. Monday when the driver changed lanes and struck 55-year-old Kenneth Hamilton, who was riding his personal motorcycle.
Hamilton’s family identified him as the victim, according to KABC-TV.
Hamilton’s bike veered westbound and struck a curb. Hamilton was thrown from the bike and hit a traffic pole, which then fell on him, KCBS-TV reported.
The Civic’s driver continued on without stopping.
“You got to do the right thing just like my dad would do,” Hamilton’s daughter Shannon told KABC. “You’ve got to face the consequences for your actions.”
Hamilton was also an assistant baseball coach at Santiago High School, where players held a vigil in his memory Monday night.
“Consummate professional, consummate friend, good to the community,” assistant coach Ty DeTrinidad said of Hamilton. “Just someone you’d look at and say, ‘I’d like to model myself after that person.’ ”
A memorial service is scheduled to take place on the high school baseball field Saturday, KCBS reported.
