Driver shot in head on 110 Freeway, listed in critical condition
A 40-year-old man was in critical condition after being shot in the head in a car-to-car shooting on the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles, police said.
Police said they did not know what prompted the shooting, and were investigating whether it may have been gang-related or a case of road rage.
The LAPD’s criminal gang homicide unit was investigating.
The shooting was reported just before 12:30 p.m.
The victim was driving a white Pontiac Grand Am when a dark-colored Nissan Sentra pulled up and someone opened fire, according to police.
After being shot, the man exited the freeway and called 911.
The northbound side of the freeway was closed between Florence Avenue and Manchester Avenue as detectives combed the freeway for clues. The lanes began reopening at about 2:15 p.m.
Police said they were searching for the Sentra. No suspect description was immediately available. Police said more than one person was in the car.
