Alleged gang member charged with murder in 6-year-old’s shooting

A 21-year-old gang member was charged with murder Wednesday in the shooting death of a 6-year-old girl in Moreno Valley, prosecutors said.

Keandre Narkie Johnson, of Moreno Valley, was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon on charges of murder, attempted murder and participation in a criminal street gang, the Riverside County district attorney’s office said.

He also faces special allegations of gang participation, causing great bodily injury and committing the offense to further the activities of a criminal street gang.

Johnson is a documented member of the Moreno Valley-based Edgemont Criminals, prosecutors said. He was also described as a “parolee-at-large” for failing to report to his parole officer after a 2011 Riverside County burglary conviction.

Johnson was arrested this week in connection with the Sept. 7 shooting that killed Tiana Ricks and injured her father, 26-year-old Tyrell Ricks Jr. Prosecutors said the father and daughter were among a group standing near a garage at a Moreno Valley home when gunfire broke out.

Tiana and her father were taken to the Riverside County Regional Medical Center, where the girl was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors said “numerous tips” poured in to police, leading detectives to Johnson. The investigation is ongoing.

Tiana’s death drew attention from hip-hop artists The Game and Snoop Lion, who both contributed funds toward the girl’s funeral.

The Game, who hails from Compton, pledged $10,000, his representative confirmed. Long Beach rapper-turned-reggae artist Snoop Lion (formerly known as Snoop Dogg) donated an undisclosed amount.
