Man severely burned in a Hollywood Hills fire that reveals lab for refining marijuana
A fire that severely burned a man in a Hollywood Hills apartment early Thursday revealed a honey oil lab for refining marijuana, police said.
The rapidly expanding fire was reported about 2:45 a.m. in a second-floor apartment in the 1900 block of North Cahuenga Boulevard, said Lt. Brent McGuyre.
When firefighters arrived, they found a man with severe burns to his face, chest and arms, McGuyre said. Paramedics rushed the man to Cedar-Sinai Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, he said.
Inside the apartment authorities found a “large quantity” of marijuana and various types of butane equipment used to process the drug, police said. Arson and narcotics investigators spent Thursday morning combing the scene for evidence.
The fire was limited to the apartment but triggered the complex’s sprinkler system, flooding neighboring apartments, McGuyre said. No one else was reported injured.
